Seamless Glucose Monitoring: Dexcom G7 and Apple Watch Integration

In a significant advancement for diabetes care technology, Dexcom, Inc. has launched direct integration of its Dexcom G7 Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System with Apple Watch in the United States, United Kingdom, and Ireland and other regions. This innovation marks Dexcom G7 as the first CGM system capable of transmitting real-time glucose readings directly to Apple Watch, enabling users to monitor their glucose levels without needing their iPhone nearby.†

Enhanced Patient Convenience and Accessibility

Direct to Apple Watch with Dexcom G7 offers several advantages for healthcare professionals (HCPs) and their patients. The primary benefit is the convenience and immediacy of glucose data access. Patients no longer need to check their smartphones or separate Dexcom receiver; instead, they can view their glucose levels and trend arrows discreetly and effortlessly on their wrist. The ability to leave their phone behind† during exercise, sleep, or social outings facilitates greater flexibility and freedom to those living with diabetes.

Using Dexcom G7 and Apple Watch also provides another form of convenience in allowing patients to view all their health data all in one place.  The Apple Health app shows activity, sleep, cycle tracking, and other health data alongside glucose readings from Dexcom G7.

Improved Adherence and Patient Engagement

Enhanced ease of access to real-time glucose readings makes it easier for patients to adhere to glucose monitoring routines and engage with their CGM data.  Patients who interact with CGM data show improved outcomes for both metabolic and diabetes distress symptoms.1, 2

The ability to glance at their wrist to view glucose data and trend arrows makes it easier for patients to check glucose at times when it’s inconvenient to pull out their phones, such as during meetings or at dinner.

Timely Alerts and Clinical Decision Support

The Dexcom Apple Watch integration enables the ability to respond promptly to glucose fluctuations.  Immediate alerts and notifications on the Apple Watch allow patients to take timely action in cases of hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia.  The ability to rapidly respond to glucose fluctuations without the need for a smartphone is particularly beneficial in scenarios where quick action is critical, such as during physical activity, traveling, or sleep.  Additionally, patients can acknowledge alerts directly from their watch, eliminating the need to open the Dexcom G7 app to acknowledge alerts.
